Sacred Orrisa Tour

Bhubaneshwar, capital of Orrisa, can be easily reached by the air from Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and other cities. Its nearest major city is Calcutta.

Day 01: Bhubaneshwar
Arrive Bhubaneshwar by air from Calcutta and transfer to your hotel. Until the Moghul invasions of the 16th century, the city had no less than 7000 Hindu temples. Over 500 still remain, dominated by the 11th century Lingaraj Temple, and your afternoon sightseeing tour will concentrate on these.

Day 02: Konark/Puri
Depart by road for the mighty Temple of the Sun Konark, visiting the picturesque village of Pipli (flamed for its embroidered mirror - work) en route and continuing to Puri, home of the Hindu deity Jagganath, "Lord of the Universe". At his midsummer festival his chariot (hence 'juggernaut' ) is drawn through vast numbers of pilgrims.

Day 03: Chilka
After breakfast drive to Lake Chilka. Overnight stay.

Day 04: Chilka
At leisure in Chilka.

Day 05: Chilka/Bhubaneshwar
Drive from Chilka to Bhubaneshwar.

Day 06: Bhubaneshwar
Full day's sightseeing in and around Bhubaneshwar.
